MEDIA AND DISABILITY – A Challenge for the Balkans
Regional Workshop

The aim of the workshop is to establish a working forum on media and disability. It will focus on establishing a regional magazine promoting human rights with emphases on issues related to disability. The methodology of the workshop will be to exchange best practices and tools through sharing.
UNIFIED VOICE
Conference
Second half of November Neum, Bosnia Herzegovina
Organized by IC Lotos, with the support of SHARE-SEE. The second Unified Voice conference will take place in Neum in a second half of November. It will be expected to see some conclusions and "ways to act for persons with disabilities" as outcomes of this conference among other topics to be set for discussion. The first Neum conference took place in December 2003.

THE INTERNATIONAL DAY OF CHILDREN
1 June 2004 Kosovo
1 June will be the International Day of Children. The province of Kosovo will celebrate this event. Indeed, the Associations of parents of children with disability and other DPO's who provide services to children with disability are going to prepare this celebration. Some common programs between disabled and non-disabled children are planned in poetry and theatre performances. A Festival of music will also be organized.

INTERNATIONAL CAMPAIGN TO BAND LANDMINES, Sarajevo

3,4,5 May 2004 BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA
The ICBL – International Campaign to Band landmines – will organize a conference the 3 rd to 5th May 2004 in Sarajevo, in collaboration with Handicap International and international people's Aid (NPA). The Sarajevo meeting will follow a series of regional ICBL meetings held between November 2003 and April 2004 in Bishkek (Kyrgyzstan), Sharjah (United Arab Emirats), Bogotá (Colombia), Bujumbura (Burundi) and Kabul (Afghanistan). The global meeting will bring together the Landmine Monitor Report 2004.
SPORT EVENTS IN BOSNIA AND HERZEGOVINA
29,30 May 2004 BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA Two sport events for people with disability are planned in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The first one is an international tournament in seating volleyball. It will be held in KSC Ilidya, from 29-30 May 2004. The second event was aimed for people with mental disability called “Game of Friendship of South East Europe. It was held in KSCR Zetra in April.

ARTISTICS PERFORMANCES "Experts government"
1-13 March 2004 Macedonia
The Association "Kud-Biljana" in Skopje, which is working on the blind persons' abilities emancipation in artistic activities, is going to organize performances in three cities of Macedonia. The performance is entitled "Experts government" and it highlights the needs problems of blind people and, at the same time, criticizes ministries who don't care enough for the needs of people with disability. The first performance will take place on the 1 st March in Negotino, the second one will be held in Kicevo around the 5th of March (to confirmed) and the third one in Ohrid around the 13th of March (to be confirmed).

REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON DISABILITY RIGHTS

A regional conference “Initiating legal changes in the issue of disability in Republic of Macedonia and the Region, based on the Achievements and Perspectives of the Council of Europe “ took place the 5-6-7 October organized by Polio+, partner of SHARE-SEE.
The participants produced and adopted a resolution aiming to advocate the governments of the region for concrete step further in legislative change and improvement. See the resolution (in English).
REGIONAL CONFERENCE ON ACCESSIBILITY

The 8-9 December a regional conference on accessibility will take place in Belgrade organized by the Center for Independent Living-Serbia And with the support of Share See. SEMINAR ON ADVOCACY AND LOBBYING STRATEGIES, Neum
13,14 Dec 2003 BOSNIA HERZEGOVINA Organized by IC-Lotos, with the support of SHARE-SEE.
The main goal was to try to define a common understanding of the strategy of advocacy and lobbying towards the governmental bodies to implement the UN Standard Rules in Bosnia and Herzegovina. This conference was also supported by CCI – Centre for Civic Initiatives, BIH – in the spirit of building a bridge between the disability movement and the other civil society stakeholders. This was also a first step to rebuild the dialogue towards action among DPO's. |
