Serbia and Montenegro
Location Name of the organization Project
Podgorica Nasa inicijativa - Parents association Participation in making of national disability strategy for Montenegro - The state of Montenegro has obligated to adapt the national strategy for Pwds in the year 2006 and with that in view the objective of this project is to provide active participation of DPOs in the process of development and implementation of the strategy through establishing of working body that shall ensure high-quality input from those directly affected by this strategy.
Pirot Fenix "Inaccessible" - In the communities of Pirot and Bela Palanka there is almost a complete lack of physical accessibility – to public and private buildings, on the sidewalks and crosswalks, in public transportation and parking. The aim of this project is to advocate for change in attitude regarding the right to access for Pwd and also to draw the attention of the citizens to the fact that we are all responsible for finding the solutions to important questions in our communities. Project wants to point out the possible solutions for the removal of architectural barriers if citizens, and not only the local government, join the action.
Novi Sad Ziveti uspravno Training of political party members about disability -Political parties’ membership in Serbia, especially at the local level, are not familiar with the issue and terminology of disability and the goals of the international disability movement. In their public address they use discriminatory language and patronize people with disability through their activities. Education of the representatives of 6 political partiers in Novi Sad about the basis of disability would influence the beginning of their work on advocacy for the citizens with disability position and rights, and of the permanent cooperation in consulting and learning about the issue.
Belgrade Inclusive society development centre (CRID) "Survey on employment and self employment of PWDs" - a case study - Research and analysis of state of motivation of people with disabilities in Serbia, in particular, in Belgrade, concerning employment, self-employment, entrepreneurship, etc... with the aim of producing the recommendations for improvement of current practice and regulations.
The activities will consist of: Qualitative survey/case study through focus group interviews and in-depth interviews, Analysis and presentation of survey results and lobbying. The research will be carried out with representatives of business sector, NGOs and institutions engaged in activities concerning employment and people with disabilities. The expected results of this project are: stimulated better integration of pwd into the job market, reduction of discrimination faced by pwd in professional life, creation of pre-conditions for implementation of an active policy of employment of pwds and creation of regulation for affirmative action by pwd to be employed or self employed.
Svilajnac Association for cerebral and child palsy Advocacy for improvement of PwD's life quality-The project advocates for increase of participation of Pwd in educational processes in order to improve their potential for finding employment later in life. The project will work towards development of the strategy called: "The Advantages and Necessity of Providing Employment to Persons with Disabilities" with the aim of reducing the unemployment rate of PwD in the Municipality of Svilajnac.
Paracin CDP "Visible" is an awareness raising project where through public debates and media facts about Pwd lives, prejudices, their problems and potentials will be shared within the community of Paracin. Project will also work towards making persons with disability more visible and present in their community life, reducing marginalization of this group of people.
Belgrade Ziveti uspravno "Tickets for visibility" project aims at expanding the frontiers of understanding by tackling the issues which contribute to decision making process on individual and global level by using the art technique of Theatre of Oppressed, and more precisely FORUM theatre. This technique is known to be improving cooperation and mutual respect among people, raising awareness and above all, making them participative..
Throughout the project implementation the issues like: employment, medical problems, discrimination, etc will be addressed with the aim of changing approaches and exploring different solutions which will contribute to raising the awareness among general population and among people with disabilities. One of the goals of this project is to produce a final event of good quality, visibility and impact.
Belgrade Autism Association of Belgrade "Promotion of right to work" The aim of this project is to advocate for creation of possibilities for people with autism to achieve their human right to work through establishing innovative type of workshops (Daily Centres) for their occupational activities. This project will also support the development of cooperation with organizations and professionals from abroad, which will enable sharing and transfer of knowledge and good practice from countries with highly developed support for people with autism to Serbia.
Majdanpek FREND "Education for tomorrow" Project aims at reducing the prejudices and raising awareness among lawyers and law students about issues concerning disability and anti discrimination legislation. This project will respond to an identified problem of insufficient knowledge and awareness of legal professionals about issues important for legal representation of disabled persons. The project activities involve spreading of information about anti-discrimination law and familiarization of legal professionals and students from Majdanpek and Sabac, with rights and best practices in offering legal assistance to disabled people whose rights were violated.
Nis Association of students with disability (NUSH) "Education - equal for all" -Project aims at Influencing local authorities and community to create better conditions for inclusive education at the University of Nis through media campaign, public tribunes and a survey. The status of the disabled students is far below the European standards, as far as education, employment and social integration are concerned. In order to improve the conditions for the disabled students, it is necessary to raise the awareness about the existing need for education of this group of people.
Leskovac Association of dystrophics Jablanica-Pcinja district "Access everywhere" The aim of the project is a social inclusion and equalisation of opportunities for PWDs through awareness raising and creation of preconditions for accessible environment in Leskovac.
The project will attempt to tackle the local legislation regarding construction of accessible environment and mechanisms for penalties for non compliance with regulations.
Zajecar Intercomm - Organization of deaf and partially deaf "In focus" The main objective of the project is raising the level of awareness of local community and authorities on the issue of employment/self employment of disabled persons and preparing the ground for creation of equal conditions for employment/self employment of pwds, which in the longer run should provide pwd with higher level of competitiveness in the programs for self employment offered by National labour agency

 

Macedonia

Radovis Association of labour invalids "Open the doors for us" - The project will deal with issue of physical inaccessibility in the Municipality of Radovis through awareness raising campaign. For the Pwds living in this community, it is almost impossible to access any of the public buildings and therefore their basic human right of free movement is denied. Being unable to move freely prohibits them to lead a meaningful social life and to feel included.
Tetovo Golden hand "Promotion of labour law for PwDs" The project consists of promotion of current labour law for the persons with disabilities in the manner of providing them with info on possible realization of their rights to work. On the other side, the benefits and incentives provided by the labour law are not known to local companies and often that is the main reason why they don’t take into consideration Pwds as potential employees and tend to avoid hiring them. By interpreting the law to both sides, the clear picture of law provisions will be created and in cooperation with local government the project should increase the number of employed PwDs in the future.
Prilep Regional handicap Centre "Your voice is your right" -The project is dealing with the issue of right to vote which for many persons with disability is denied due to inaccessibility of voting stations or they are not registered as voters. In this year elections the grantee will carry out the observation of how the right to vote is exercised, in order to prepare recommendations for change in Election Law to achieve increase in number of voters among Pwds.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina

Jajce Nasa djeca "Collection of info about persons w special needs" The grantee and the Centre for Social Work will work together to establish the exact number of children with special needs in Jajce and Dobretici area. This is needed in order to educate parents about needs and rights of their children as well as to speed up their inclusion process.
Banja Luka Association of youth with disability - INFOPART "Education for all" project aim is to influence the Head of University to support the establishment of Service for students with disabilities. Also this project should contribute to increase the number of enrolments of new students with disability as well as to creation of better conditions for studying, including removal of architectural barriers prohibiting access to Pwd to many faculties. This project will in addition contribute to raising awareness of education professionals as they are not sensitized enough to the needs and abilities of students with disability and tend to treat them with pity and dismissal.
Banja Luka Union of blind RS Harmonization of domestic legislation with international .standards; The project aims at creating equal opportunities for people with disability by helping them to exercise their legally guaranteed rights and more specifically to pass two new drafts of proposed laws (1. law about social welfare and 2.Law about Rights of blind persons to use guide dogs) in order to bring them closer to international standards. Project will, in addition, work at raising awareness in the community about issues affecting PwD as well as lobby the authorities.
Vlasenica Svetionik "Me, citizen" Vlasenica is a small community with quite large number of Pwds but inadequate level of awareness about their rights and needs at local authority level. The aim of this project is to raise awareness both in Pwds and local authorities and to put the issue of disability on the agenda. The final goal is to obtain the commitment from Municipality to obligate certain funds in their annual budget for disability issues.
Sarajevo Association of parap/pat.of inf.palsy Federation BiH "Harmonization of cantonal legislation" due to the cantonal structure of BiH, the laws regarding provision of various aids differ from one canton to another. The goal of this project is harmonization of cantonal legal provisions regarding entitlements to procurement of orthopaedic and other aids with the scope of developing a Standardized List at the Federation Level so that entitlements for all individuals with disabilities be equal on the whole territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

 

Albania

Elbasan Parents association "Nothing for us, without us" - Awareness raising in the community of Elbasan about needs for social integration of children with intellectual disability. The project aims at making parents aware about the need of integrating their children into community life and at the same time in making the community aware about existence of PwD and the need to treat them equally and help them get out of their isolation.

Gracanica OON "Together in future" The project takes place in the central part of Kosovo and consists of :Awareness raising campaign in the community about importance of inclusion and integration of PwDs, development of action plan for removal of architectural barriers and preparation of necessary preconditions for inclusive education in 3 schools.
Rakovec OPFAKKOS "Social protection is the right of children as well" This project aims at providing support to families with children with disabilities in overcoming the feeling of shame and becoming more actively involved in lobbying of local authorities for the rights of their children in the fields of education, health care, employment and social protection.
Malisheva HANDIKOS "Nothing for us, without us" The project aim is establishing of Committee for Persons with Disabilities within Municipal Assembly with the scope of increasing the participation of PwDs in decision-making processes in Malisheva. This should contribute to better informing, inclusion and participation of PwD in all important segments of social and economic life. On the other hand it would increase the awareness of local community and fight prejudices about PwD.
