Serbia and Montenegro
  Name of the organization Project
Belgrade Association of paraplegics and quadriplegics “Dunav” “We would like to park” - To raise awareness about need for appropriate and allocated parking spaces for PWDs and to increase the number of such parking spaces in Belgrade. The project has achieved its goal and was very successful.
Belgrade Association of citizens “To Live Upright” Fashion and us - In order to promote abilities of people with disabilities and thereby to enhance their self esteem, the organisation has created a collection of outfits especially designed for people with disabilities. The highlight of the project have been 2 fashion shows gathering large number of spectators. A good media coverage followed the shows.
Belgrade Association of Residents of Home for PWDs "Bezanijska Kosa" Cooperation and improvement of communication between home residents and the local community -For better socialising and integration of home residents with their surrounding neighbours, the project envisioned cultural and sport events to which the neighbourhood's people will be invited to participate. The project was successful and has provided for number of opportunities for socializing with neighbours.
Kragujevac Association of paraplegics-Kragujevac Informative centre for support to people with disabilities - To support people with disabilities in their daily life, an informative centre for people with disabilities in Kragujevac is established with the aim to provide information related to various fields of interest (law, social protection, etc.). The professionals working at the centre are: lawyer, psychologist and a social worker. Two phone lines are available for enquiries from people with disabilities. Local newspapers, TV channel and radio covered the opening of the centre.
Majdanpek Association of citizens with disability ‘FREND’ Be Human - The project aims at raising awareness on disability issues through publishing and dissemination of informative materials, media coverage and organization of public tribunes. Project succeeded in having good impact on local community and more particularly on local authorities, since the organisation’s activities became included into the municipality's budget. The local media regularly reports on organisation’s activities.
Nis Association of Paraplegics of Nisava District This Is My City, Too - The project aimed at raising awareness on disability issues with emphasis on the necessity to remove architectural barriers. The activities were the production and distribution of informative material, organisation of tribune about universal design, public events and art competition in primary schools. The street event consisted of a wheel chair basketball match on the main city square to which hundreds of people attended and among them some high officials from local government. Many members of others DPOs and NGOs took an active part in the project which was well covered by local media.
Novi Pazar Association of deaf and hard of hearing persons of Novi Pazar To better understand each other – For enabling the people with hearing impairment to get information and fully benefit from services provided by public institutions, basic sign language course has been organised for 3 social workers from each municipality and for parents of children with hearing impairment. The project has been implemented in 3 municipalities of Sandzak region.
Podgorica Association of Youth with disabilities of Montenegro I raise my voice – I tear down the barriers! - To raise awareness on the situation and needs of people with disabilities to live in an accessible environment, the association produced and distributed promotional-educational material, organised surveys and tribune including representatives of local authorities and of disabled people's organisations.
Zajecar Organization for cerebral palsy Accessible and inaccessible institutions in Zajecar - To raise awareness on disability issues with emphasis on the necessity to remove architectural barriers, the campaign included printing the accessible/inaccessible guidelines, printing of map of Zajecar and putting stickers on the accessible/inaccessible buildings in the community.

 

Macedonia
  Name of the organization Project
Prilep Regional Handicap Center – Prilep “Parking For Me“ - To raise the level of awareness about mobility of people with disabilities and their needs for appropriate parking spaces, this project will help people with disabilities to become more independent. The project has created 30 parking spaces in Prilep reserved for people with disabilities and raised awareness at all levels of the community about the rights of people with disabilities. Flyers have been distributed and put on cars illegally parked on PWD’s allocated parking spaces.
Prilep Association of Blind People - Prilep “Through New Eyes” - Project Extension - To further develop the project that has been granted in first call for proposals, the association has created “listening rooms” in four offices of the Association to enable members to listen to the talking material from regional library. The rooms have been fully furnished and equipped with tape recorders and CD players. The members can also borrow the material thanks to an identification number put on each item. As an opportunity for socialising and for promoting the library premises, regular “listening evenings” are organised.
Skopje Center for Support of Persons with Intellectual Disabilities – PORAKA Skopje National Campaign to support the employment of persons with intellectual disabilities “What about my rights?" - Public promotion and awareness raising regarding the rights and needs of persons with intellectual disabilities and their inclusion in the community, particularly through employment. The association advocates for equal support from the state, with a state provision for a monitoring mechanism of relationship between employers and people with intellectual disabilities as employees. The centre has organised round tables and published the conclusions in different newspapers. Broadcasting on national and local television presented the issues faced by people with disabilities regarding employment. Leaflets and posters have been distributed throughout the project implementation.
Tetovo Association of parents of children with celebral palsy We as the others - Association of the parents of children with cerebral palsy from Tetovo has opened an information centre that provides information, advice and consultations about rights of children with disabilities. Through this project, children with disabilities and their parents have opportunities to get information regarding education process, health, employment and social services guaranteed by laws in Macedonia. For the first time in the city and in the region, children with disabilities and their parents have possibility to get adequate information concerning them; about benefits and rights that are granted by the state. A SOS phone line has been opened. Leaflets have been distributed. Round tables have been organised gathering representatives of institutions, DPOs and parents of children with disabilities. Home visits have also been organised for people who cannot come to the information centre.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina
  Name of the organization Project
Bugojno Association of citizen with damaged sense of hearing and speech- Bugojno We are deaf and mute -but don't be you for our rights, needs and opportunities - With the aim to create a strong advocacy platform for the rights of people with damaged sense of hearing and speech, the Association has created a network of disabled people organisations at a Cantonal level in order to create a significant influence on decision making process of local and cantonal politicians.
Rudo Womens association “ Mother and child “ Removing the architectural and psychological obstructions - The project wants to raise awareness among local population about the marginalization and life conditions of people with disabilities, particularly in this remote part of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thereby to promote their equal opportunities and human rights. It is the first project of this kind ever implemented in this region of Bosnia. Round tables were organised and messages conveyed to the media. A network with four other DPOs from the upper part of Drina has been created.
Tuzla Association of citizens with hearing impairments Cultural and artistic presentation of the youth with hearing impairments in Latino American Dances - To raise awareness on the equal opportunities and abilities of youth with disabilities in the Canton, the Association organised dancing classes in latino dances. Following the classes, they have organized three public performances which attracted a lot of attention and had a good television coverage at a cantonal level. At the same time this project has contributed to the increase of activism of members within the association.

 

Albania
  Name of the organization Project
Tirana Albanian Association of Invalids of Labour DPOS Cross-border cooperation - In order to advocate for supportive legislation in favour of invalids of labour and lobby Albanian government to put the issue on the political agenda, the project aimed at sharing experiences with Macedonian DPOs. The project highlights the benefits of such law for the community as a whole, as any citizen can become invalid of labour. The project organised 4 round tables where representatives of local authorities and DPOs from both Macedonia and Albania, gathered to discuss and compare legislation and practice of in their respective country. Sport activities have been organised among people with disabilities for them to strengthen their friendship. As a result, DPOs are ready to use the new information obtained through exchange of knowledge and good practices, in their respective countries.
Kukes Association of parents for Handicap Children Training of association personnel and sensibilisation of community members about rights of children with disability – the project identified the need for training of association’s staff and for raising awareness in the community and among parents of children with disability about rights of disabled children. This will be achieved by providing 4 training modules for staff and by disseminating information about rights of children with disability to parents and other members of the community.

  Name of the organization Project
Pristina Association of civil invalids of the war Establishing and strengthening the capacities of the association in the field - The project aim is to re-organize and modernize the Association. In order to achieve that, the efforts will be invested into building of organizational capacity, creating of database, providing information, advocacy and lobbying in the institutions related to the rights of civil invalids of the war, advocacy for vocational trainings and education.
