Serbia and Montenegro
  Name of the organization Project
Belgrade “Valid-In” Prejudices and fears! Mere stories! - To raise positive public awareness about abilities of people with disabilities, a documentary was filmed presenting 3 active and fully integrated people with disabilities. The movie has been shown in movie theatres and on the national TV on International Day of People with disabilities (3rd of December).
Bijelo Polje Association of parents of children and young people with special needs Support to the Day care centre - In order to support alternative service providers for children with disabilities, the project supported the Association in the early phase of establishing the first day care centre in Montenegro, which will hopefully become, after this pilot phase, a part of the official social care system - supported by government through Ministry or local authorities. The support has been provided through the selection of staff, selection of 14 children/beneficiaries of the centre, trainings, consultancies, study visits, etc.
Leskovac Centar Ziveti Uspravno - Leskovac The Rights of people with disabilities are human rights - To raise awareness of local community about the situation of people with disabilities, 3 workshops gathering 43 people working in the fields of medicine, education, social care and other have been organised. A survey conducted among the participants at the end of the workshops showed an effective increase in the level of awareness.
Sombor Association of Distrophics of West Backa District Do I have the right to...? To promote basic human rights of people with disabilities and to indicate the barriers encountered in all public services, a broad awareness raising campaign on disability issues, including production and distribution of awareness raising materials, media coverage, public events and tribunes, have been organised.
Svrljig SIZIIF, Svrljiska Invalidska Zajednica za Integraciju Invalida i Filozofiranje Perfectum Mobile - To remove architectural barriers in the town of Svrljig, 25 adapted pavements and 14 ramps have been built, facilitating access to different public buildings like church, health centre, Post office, Internet Café, Cultural centre, primary and secondary schools, supermarkets, restaurants, etc. To provide media coverage of project: press releases, TV broadcasts and public opinion survey have been organised.
Zajecar Inter-district organization of the multiple sclerosis Mutual - The main objective was to increase the level of participation of members in the association's activities which should lead to the realisation of organization’s goals and improvement of work performance as well as decrease in social isolation. A Team of 12 members of Association have been educated for peer counselling and are visiting all members of Association in the region, in order to increase their motivation and activism as well their social participation. Promotion materials, booklets, leaflets and comics, have been produced too.
Zajecar Intercommunal Organisation of Deaf and Partially Deaf People Zajecar World of Silence - To enable people with hearing impairments to get information and services in public institutions, a basic sign language course for 25 civil servants has been provided, 3 hours per week, over a period of 10 weeks, with an exam at the end. To raise awareness about lives of people with hearing impairment and organisation’s activities, 2 TV-reportages have been produced, 1500 flyers and 500 posters have been distributed in the community by members of the organisation.
Zrenjanin Association of Blind Zrenjanin VISION SSZ -Education of members of Association to use computers. The visual impairment is overcame by the screen reader software "An-reader". 5 members were trained and will be able to train other blind people. The whole process and results of the project were followed by media and broadcasted regularly on the radio, newspapers and website. In addition, the tribune with more than 50 participants from local community was organised.

 

Macedonia
  Name of the organization Project
Negotino Center for helping persons with mental handicap- message negotino - Continuation of the work of the day care center in Negotino - The day care centre in Negotino provides alternative services to people with mental disability. The project supports the continuation of centre’s activities, such as daily care and registration of people with moderate and severe intellectual disability or education and rehabilitation for autonomous life. The day care centre has 15 persons-adolescents users.
Prilep Regional handikap center "Equal opportunities for everyone" To improve the prospects for employment of people with disabilities and to put the emphasis on their rights, the project set the following objectives: on one hand to raise the awareness of people with disabilities on employment protection, role of appropriate institutions and the existing law on employment of persons with disability, and on the other hand to raise awareness of the business sector in the region (Prilep, Krushevo & M. Brod) on this issue and also on the benefits of establishing companies for employing persons with disabilities. A wide lobbying campaign accompanied the project towards employment of people with disabilities based on the existing legal regulation.
Skopje Association of students with special educational needs Informative service for students with disabilities at university - The project supports education of students with disabilities at the University. To provide a supportive infrastructure, the Association has developed an information center where students have access to appropriate information and therefore ti increase the odds of achieving the university education and equal opportunities like any other student.. The center also facilitates communication between students with disabilities and professors. At the same time, the association conducted campaigns to raise awareness of the general public about capacities and needs of students with disabilities.

 

Bosnia and Herzegovina
  Name of the organization Project
Bihac Association "Joy of socializing among parents, children and friends of children with special needs" Improving living conditions of children with special needs - To improve the relationship between children with special needs and their parents, the project has developed contacts between parents and professionals in the community. A team of volunteers working with children has been created. In the frame of the inclusive program that started in 2004 in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the work of teachers with children with special needs has also improved.
Bijeljina Association of the deaf and hard of hearing people of bijeljina region Sign language training for hearing people - In order to achieve better understanding among professionals employed in the Association with deaf and hard of hearing people, a sign language course has been organized.
Tuzla The association of the blind citizens of the region of Tuzla International festival of musical and literary creative work of the blind people from the countries of FRY - With the aim of raising awareness on abilities of people with disabilities and in order to rebuild the network of blind people Associations from all countries in the region, a festival of music and literary work has been organised. More than 80 blind people from the whole region participated and performed on stage. The festival was the first of this kind and has the aspirations to become an annual event. A roundtable has also been organised with the topic “Poetry and promotion of equal opportunities for Blind and visually impaired people".
Zenica Association of paraplegics and patients of infantile palsy Translation and publishing of the book “Yes you can”, under copyright licence of PVA (paralysed veterans of America) - , a guide for self-care of persons with spinal cord injury. This book is considered to be the best source of information for paraplegics and with this project it was planned to print and distribute free of charge some 1,000 copies of it.

 

Albania
  Name of the organization Project
Tirana Association of women with disabilities Promotion of Human Rights for women with disabilities - Women with disabilities living in the suburb of Tirana, in a very poor and problematic neighbourhood, face strong discrimination and are subjects to regular acts of violence. By providing them with 15 days of training, the project aimed at raising awareness about women’s rights and to protect their dignity as human beings. Initially planned to reach some 20 women, but due to the great interest, some 50 women participated in the project.
Tirana Parents of children with learning disability Access to education for children with disabilities -The project advocates for inclusive education of children with disabilities into mainstream schools, among the different stakeholders in the community: parents of children with and without disabilities, teachers and authorities. Along with the raising of awareness, a process of identification of children with disabilities has taken place, as well as development of an individual plan for each one of them.

 

The UN administered province of Kosovo

Gracanica OON Hand made products - To encourage self employment and sustainable life, increase creativity, psycho-social abilities, continuity of traditional crafts and promotion of multi-ethnicity, girls and women from 13 to 23 years of age, from different ethnic groups have received vocational training in knitting, sewing, embroidery and pottery. An exhibition and selling of products has been organised. The workshops also provided opportunities for socialisation among the participants.
Kline Handikos Close by the community - To break the social exclusion of people with disabilities and particularly of children with disabilities, to increase number of members registered and to develop artistic capacities; painting, drawing, knitting courses have been organised. The exhibition which followed and an interview with participants was broadcasted on national TV.
